The 'Green Star' flag symbolizes veterans who have been lost to suicide.

The suicide rate for veterans is 1.5 times higher than that of the general population. Suicide rates have been historically high among young and older veterans, with the suicide rate among veterans between the ages of 18 and 34 increasing by 95.3%.  The suicide rate among women veterans is 2.5 times higher than that of non-Veteran adult women.

Many people don't understand that when families of veterans lose a loved one to suicide, they also lose an important connection to their military support community.  We at Green Star Families are lobbying to change this and provide much needed support to surviving family members of veterans who have committed suicide.
